Data Day Recommended Session: What if Owners Wanted Data Driven Design?

"We have seen the Architectural profession try to push BIM to the next level. We have seen the Construction industry try to push the BIM bubble beyond the Design and Construction. What if the Owners of the facility (in this case Alberta Infrastructure) wanted Data-Driven BIM and what if they actually knew what they wanted?

Remember the promise that BIM would fix all the flaws in a CAD-based delivery? That collaborating on models would increase efficiency during the design and construction process. The same promise that this information would be used by the building owner to run and manage the facility. We have seen the Architectural profession try to push BIM to the next level. We have seen the Construction industry try to push the BIM bubble beyond the Design and Construction. What if the Owners of the facility were the ones who wanted Data-Driven BIM and what if they actually knew what they wanted? In this class, I will present Alberta Infrastructure's vision of utilizing Data early in the planning process to drive and guide the design and construction of our facilities. I will present how Alberta Infrastructure will use a Data-Driven approach to guide and validate projects so that we know we are getting what we are paying for and that we can effectively manage and operate our facilities during occupancy of the facility."
